They needed a new logo. Then a new website, which had to meet the needs of two distinct audiences. And all before the bell rang.

St. Pius X Elementary School of Cedar Rapids, Iowa had multiple needs when it approached Informatics for a website redesign. They needed a new logo that would quickly identify them as well as separate the school from other catholic institutions in the area and around the country. The website needed to provide information quickly and efficiently to current students and parents while simultaneously supplying prospective students and parents with all the information they need to make a choice about schooling. All this had to be done before the school year, which was rapidly approaching.

Informatics was up to the task.

The logo came together early, which was the springboard for the website. With multiple needs and a tight deadline, the design needed to be effective and efficient while speaking to current and prospective students and parents.

Current students and parents can find information in multiple ways. The navigation bar at the top supplies a link with a dropdown menu that directs viewers to specific pages about school policies, tuition, and registration, among others. Alternatively, a prominent “Quick Links” section on the homepage draws the eye. Here you’ll find the most popular links including school calendar, contact information, and the all important lunch menu.

For the prospective viewer, the homepage supplies a wealth of information. To start, a prominent image is displayed with accompanying text that speaks to the St. Pius X philosophy and educational benefits. This section will auto-rotate between four preprogrammed images, each with corresponding message and links. Below this, a banner offers the “Top Ten Reasons to Attend St. Pius X,” which links to a downloadable PDF file.

And that’s not all. The homepage also contains a news module that allows the St. Pius X staff to easily maintain and update the site with the latest news and events. In addition to that, the staff has access to a content module where they are able to display any unique information pertaining to the schools activities. Delightfully titled the “Panther Bulletin Board,” this informative widget is also found on the homepage.

All that just scratches the surface. Inside the site you’ll find school policies, an alumni section, school supply lists, an in-depth teacher directory, a message from the principal, and much more.
“We are obviously thrilled with the end result,” says Christine Gust, Bookkeeper at St. Pius Elementary, “and believe that we have the most amazing elementary school website.”

Looks like class is in session.
